Hey Travel Lover
George Bernard Shaw says “The great advantage of a hotel is that it is a refuge from home life”. Do you agree, disagree, or remain neutral?
So, you have decided the holiday location, duration and activities, what next? If you have family at the location, it is possible you stay with them, if there is no family at the location, what then? I have been to several cities where I had neither family nor friends, so the big question before holiday starts becomes “where will I stay”? Do I stay at a hotel or an apartment?
In 2018, I went to Atlanta, I had neither family nor friends in that city so definitely I knew I would stay at a hotel. I remember the search before the trip, should I stay downtown or midtown. After zeroing on location, the next was the hotel. What are people saying about the hotel – reviews, very important? What is the distance from famous attractions in the city? I eventually decided and kept on poring through photos to make sure I had made a good choice. When I arrived, the hotel was in a great location and a guest at the check-in counter got upgraded to a suite because it was her birthday. I could feel her joy, I immediately asked for an upgrade but my birthday was months away so you can guess the answer to my request.
On entering my room, I beamed with smiles and did my little victory dance that I chose right. Much later in the day, I looked if there was a fridge in the room, there wasn’t any, I immediately requested for one, a tip given to me by my sister, and one was wheeled to my room. It was indeed a refuge from home life for me as I could focus on my holiday and escape some home life chores.
My friend and her family on the other hand stayed at an apartment when they visited New York. I can still visualize the smile on her face when she spoke of the skyline and the sights at night. She had a lovely view. The beauty of apartments is you get appliances like a cooker, dish washer, washing machine, micro wave to mention a few. It has its advantages especially if one has a picky eater in the fold, though some chores would need to be incorporated into the holiday. Location and people’s reviews are important factors to be considered when making a decision
So Travel Lover, to which direction do you think you will be swayed when making a choice? I almost always sway to the hotel and really jump up for glee if the hotel is better than I imagined. I like that I can really get to rest as “the refuge of home life” is taken off me for a bit. An Apartment is also an interesting choice I should try soon. Awaiting your choice in the comments section

The beauty of a every traveller is to get the best of comfort away from home.
And so for i will go for a hotel just so i have the best of service.
thanks for always dropping this updates.
I think I will vote for a hotel. Like you said, all you need do is just relax and be catered to. I ain't travelling all the way to New York and then wash my own toilet! Hell no.
