Hey Travel Lover
Picture this, you are on vacation, staying in a luxurious hotel with scenic balcony views. As part of your hotel package you can choose between a free drink and no daily housekeeping or daily housekeeping and no free drink. What would your choice be?
I made an exciting discovery when I visited Switzerland and what is the essence of learning valuable tips if I don’t share right?
My first stop was Geneva. As I was checking in, the hotel concierge informed me that if I didn’t use housekeeping, I will get a free drink. At that point I thought of my love for all the little bottles of cream, bath gel, shampoo and the likes (don’t judge me🙄). On top of that when I travel, I particularly look forward to a well-made bed after a long day of “Ajalaress behavior” capturing sights and sounds of the city. Well…on this occasion yours truly decided to give all this up for a free drink.(I just couldn’t pass on it)
The next day when I was heading out as a happy tourist that I usually am, I ensured I left the tag outside my door for housekeeping to skip my room. In fact, I was already almost outside before I remembered. I rushed back in, did the needful and headed out. When I got back, I saw the free drink coupon on my door and got giddy again with excitement. I was thinking of what my favorite drink for the day would be. Alas, it was good old water. Yes, this nice Geneva hotel didn’t offer complimentary water and the drinks on display didn’t tickle my taste buds.
Next stop was Zurich… As I was checking in, same story, if I ditch housekeeping I will get a free cocktail. They had the Ruby Green Initiative with the rhyme “Drink Cocktails, Save Water”. It was a late afternoon check-in and the cocktail bar was already open. Fun fact: I love lemons, especially having them in my cocktails. I remember perceiving lemons and striking up a conversation about how that lemon cocktail would be a dream. Guess what, the beautiful lady attendant gave me two coupons instead of one. I guess it helps to be conversational and passionate about what you like.
First night, I couldn’t wait for my free cocktail. At least I knew it wasn’t water, lol! I headed to the bar and requested for the menu; it was a booklet. I was overwhelmed and spoilt for choice so I had a discussion with the mixologist (one who is skilled at mixing cocktails) and of course I told him of my love for lemons. Finally I settled for Gin Basil Smash. It was indeed a dream; I just wish the glass was bigger…lol
The next night, after being an excited tourist, I headed to the bar, saw the same mixologist and we had a lengthier discussion, he even suggested a cocktail with raw egg white. I wasn’t that brave or adventurous, so I settled for a Strawberry Moscow Mule. It was equally amazing and also a dream. Suffice to say, I became a fully converted “Drink Cocktails and Save Water” fan ☺
So Travel Lover, in a world where you’re free to choose, would you pick cocktails over housekeeping? Let us know your responses in the comments section.

Geneva 😍 reminds me of ‘Princess diaries’ , so dreamy…
My mouth is salivating for the delicious mixtures described above, now I wish I was with you. If I were in your shoes I will skip housekeeping too.
