Hey Travel Lover
Francois de La Rochefoucauld, the renowned French author, is quoted to have said “The only thing that should surprise us is that there are still some things that can surprise us” Do you agree with him? Has anything surprised you recently? Do you like giving and receiving surprises?
A quick flashback to a surprise I had in three different countries. I am sure you are wondering how I would have the same surprise in three different places. Indeed it surprised me too.
Take a trip down memory lane with me to Greece. It was a cool breezy evening in July 2015. I and my friend had decided to have dinner “al fresco” (in the open air). We saw this really beautiful restaurant online, ten minutes’ walk from our hotel. We set out with high expectations, and it was all we thought it would be and well worth our time. But the surprise...wait for it *Winks*
There were some musicians playing soft and soothing music, the moon had come out and we had gotten a really lovely table. We placed our order and we were waiting to be served. Then I saw it…black in colour, sly and seemingly innocuous and hugely surprising. There it was; A Big Black, Fat faced, Curious Cat! It came circling our table, then proceeded to go underneath. I immediately flung my legs on the nearest chair, wondering who had the cat. At that moment the waiter appeared with our order. My quivering legs were still on the chair and with a frantic look I asked the waiter who had the cat. With a wry smile he explained that it was a stray and that there were lots in Greece. This was news to me, a shocking surprise!
Same thing happened in Marrakech in April 2017, with the same friend and I. It was after a long morning of sightseeing and we decided to have lunch al fresco and surprise, surprise, we got a visit from our feline friend. I didn’t know this about Marrakech prior to my visit. Apparently they have lots of strays in the city too.
Last, but definitely not least, was during my long layover in Turkey, in January 2020. It was raining cats and dogs so I couldn’t even do al fresco dining even if I wanted to. I leisurely strolled down for breakfast and I was super excited to see the mountain of olives, I love olives… Anyway, I was all alone on this trip and as I was about to sit, I saw a feline in the breakfast room. To say I was shocked is an understatement. I did a quick check with the hostess and back came the same old story of strays.
So Travel Lover, have I surprised you with the feline information shared? Is there a country you visited and you experienced the feline surprise? What surprise do you want to share with us?
