Hey Travel Lover
Golf is life, Golf is a humbler, Golf is a beautiful game.
According to Wikipedia, “Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible”. As Arnold Palmer said “Success in this game depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character. Golf can also be a great way to get exercise and enjoy the outdoors.
I am a budding golfer and I love the challenge of the game and the beauty of the course. I also enjoy the camaraderie of playing with friends.
Golf is life. A golf course is filled with obstacles – water hazards, sand traps, and devilishly placed trees that seem to have a magnetic attraction to golf balls (spot my white ball in the picture below). Life, too, is full of obstacles that we must navigate. Some we see coming, like a pesky sand trap, and others take us by surprise, much like a hidden water hazard. How we deal with the obstacles can be likened to the decisions we make about life.
But perhaps the most important comparison between golf and life is the need for patience. In golf, you can't rush your shots. Rushing can lead to the shots veering off to the left or right or inevitably, the search for a lost ball. Similarly, in life, the best outcomes often come to those who take their time, consider all the angles, and make thoughtful decisions.
Golf is a humbler, this is one of the first sayings I heard while training. For the perfect swing, you hear things like “head-down”, “eyes on the ball”, “straight arms” and a host of other short commands. Now, non-adherence to these short commands will make you experience the “what I wanted versus what I got” syndrome. Budding golfer that I am, this is almost my every game story. Then, crossing a hazard today, doesn’t guarantee that it can be easily crossed the next time. You can have an amazing game today and a terrible game the next time (I speak from experience)
Golf is a beautiful game. What attracted me to golf was the sound the club makes on impact with the golf ball. It is the most beautiful sound. The golf course almost always has a scenic view and the green is always beautiful to behold. If you love networking and making new friends, you should take up golfing. Golfers also travel to various exotic destinations to play golf. I am yet to key in to this, but I am keen to start.
I have told myself to keep swinging, keep laughing, and keep living. Because, in golf and in life, the most important thing is to enjoy the journey. It's not just about the scorecard at the end. It's about the stories I tell, the friends I make, and the lessons I learn along the way.
So Travel Lover, do you think the game of golf can be likened to the game of life? Do you know any other humbling game? Does the beauty of golf appeal to you? Let us see your responses in the comments section.
