Hey Travel Lover
Have you ever lost an item in the plane? What did you do? Did you get it back?
A quote by Fumio Sasaki says “If you lost it, would you buy it again?Would you? For me it depends on the item. Let me buttress this further…
In September 2019, I got this lovely Bang & Olufsen earpiece from a friend. I really liked it but it just didn’t sit in my ears well. Fast forward to December 2019, when I visited my sister in the United States. She taught me how to place the earpiece and I, for the first time, began enjoying my powerful earpiece. Yaaaaaaaayyyy
The following day, I hopped on a jet to Seattle and decided to test the sound by enjoying some episodes of “Lost” in the friendly skies. The enjoyable entertainment didn’t last as we encountered some turbulence like none I’ve ever experienced. I quickly stopped watching the series and did the next best thing, pray. I honestly don’t know how or when I dropped the charging case but it got lost inside the Alaska Airlines aircraft.
Immediately, I realized, I told my sister and she galvanized into action. We called the contact center, sent emails with pictures of the earpiece and followed up with calls. After some time I saw it was a mission in futility and gave up. I hung on to the empty pack as long as possible while deciding if I should get the same earpiece or not. Finally I budged and got another brand. Though some times I still play all the “what if” scenarios possible.
Recently, on my trip to Egypt, I went with a novel I’ve had for sometime and I’ve been struggling to read….no judgment please🫣😅. Whilst waiting for my flight to Sharm El Sheikh from Cairo, I brought out my novel and realised it was a good read. When we boarded, I decided to continue reading my book but I reckoned without the natural force of sleep. I kept the novel in the seat pocket in front of me and succumbed to sleep. In my defense, I didn’t push the novel all the way in so I’ll remember to take it out when I disembark.
Things rarely go how we plan do they? I left the aircraft without thinking of my book. Got a taxi, and went to my hotel. Whilst enjoying the welcome Strawberry juice that was chilled to perfection and waiting to be taken to my room, I decided to enjoy some pages of my novel. That’s when it hit me, despite my safeguard, I forgot my novel. I immediately contacted my “books connect” guy and asked if I could get the same novel, I just have to finish a book when I start. I also, out of wishful thinking, sent an email to Egyptair, detailing my seat number, novel title and my return trip date, just in case the novel is seen.
To my utmost disbelief, I see a reply within ten minutes, where the team in Sharm El Sheikh are asked to check for my novel. Then, amazingly, forty minutes later, I received an email that my novel was found and I could pick it up from security on my return flight. This was so unexpected. I immediately asked my book connect guy not to bother as the lost novel had been found. Incredible!!!
So, Travel Lover, what would you do if you lost an item in the plane? Would you buy it again if you don’t get it back? Do you have awesome or awful stories of items lost in an aircraft? Do let us know in the comments section.

My friend wasn’t this lucky though we are still praying and sending messages back and forth for his luggages Lufthanza misplaced. It’s so devastating but we are still hopeful anyway.
