Hey Travel Lover
Would a Zoo make its way to your bucket list? Would you like to see “previously read about” or “previously seen on TV” animals at close range? Would you like to learn something new?
Travelling is an education, the more activities and experiences I can pack into each trip, the better. I have also come to realize that each activity or experience often leads to new knowledge or an “aha moment”. Who doesn’t love to learn something new or experience an “aha”?
When I visited Singapore in 2019, I had included in my itinerary a day at the Zoo. The beauty of the Singapore Zoo is you can go during the day or at night. Can you guess when I went? I actually went during the day AND at night - It was an enriching experience. I learnt loads of new things and I saw lots of animals for the first time.
During the day visit, I saw a great deal of “previously read about” and “previously seen on TV” animals at close range. Giraffes, Ostriches, Zebras, Hippopotamus, Mountain Goats are some on this list. Then, I saw a Meerkat which I would nickname a live “Timon” of “The Lion King” movie for those who just learnt something new! I had always wondered about Timon but never conducted a research to know. I was thrilled watching the Meerkats play in their home.
During the night safari, I got to see animals that prance at night - a Pride of Lions, a bevy of Flamingos and a host of others - they were indeed beautiful to watch. The high point of the night though was the “Creatures of the Night” show, where several animals – owls and otters inclusive - displayed their talents. At one point during the show, the host asked for two volunteers, I nearly volunteered but sitting back down was the best thing I did that night. The volunteers were asked to carry a python, with the host’s assistants though. One assistant “cradling” the head, one assistant supporting the tail, the two volunteers bearing up the mid-section. I was so enthralled with the sight, I forgot to capture the moment on camera. The new knowledge here is, volunteer at your peril!!!
So Travel Lover, Do you have any Zoo on your bucket list? Do you want to see animals at close range? Do you want to learn something new? Share your experiences or answers in the comments section.
Till Next Time

It’s the python for me. Imagine holding a python! 😳 I don’t have any zoo on my bucket list right now, but this post has whetted my appetite to actually find a zoo that operates in the night and visit
