I love to travel – cliché now right? But most of my travel has been done by me going down the aisle past first class and business class to my beautiful seat in economy class. I had heard stories from my friends and family of how they were waiting to board and they received a call. Voila! they were upgraded to business class. I kept wondering, when will I be called just before boarding so my ticket is upgraded, When, When, When…

In 2018, I travelled to the United Kingdom and a day to my return trip, when online check in was opened, I checked-in and as usual, I checked if I could change to a more comfortable seat. I saw one, clicked on it and concluded the process.

Then travel day came, and I noticed I was in boarding group 2. I thought nothing of it, I was just happy I had chosen a seat and that I got to board early. As I whistled a happy tune, strutting to the plane, I kept asking myself when will I be upgraded to business class? 

I arrived at the plane, handed my boarding pass to the air hostess at the entrance and she points to the left. I tried informing her my seat should  be to the right but she insisted I go left. I walked dazedly to the left and saw it was business and first class. I knew I had an economy class ticket, so I was in a very confused state. Then another air hostess appears and I explain my predicament. She collects my boarding pass, takes a look and educates me; you are in the right place ma’am, your seat is right here,13A.

Shock, Excitement, Joy, Unbelief, HAPPINESS….I nearly hugged the innocent blonde haired angel...sorry hostess. Unlike my family and friends I wasn't called for an upgrade, I was upgraded via early check-in to a seat of my choice. I had a beautiful beyond beautiful trip. I only wish it was longer than a 6 hour trip.
