Worth the Hype?....Part 2

On my recent trip to Rome with mom, I was opportune to visit Bocca della Verità – The Mouth of Truth. It is a tourist attraction and the name was as interesting as it was intriguing to me. I couldn’t wait to see it physically. 

Now, there is a popular myth that the Mouth of Truth sculpture will bite off the hand of any liar who places their hand in its mouth or anyone who utters a lie while their hand is in it’s mouth. You have to be audacious to insert your hand in its mouth right?🤣🤭😅

Journeying to see the sculpture was all shades of fun, as we took an extra long walk after a lighting at the train station. I still remember looking at how many steps I had taken and asking “are we there yet”?🫣🫣🫣 There was a “tourist queue”🤭 albeit not a winding one at the entrance. We quickly joined the queue. My excitement was at it’s Zenith.

Then it started drizzling, luckily we had our mini Umbrellas with us, though, even if we didn’t, a cheerful bystander quickly zipped down his bulging backpack to display a plethora of umbrellas and ponchos (rain coats) for sale. While we were wishing the rain away, we knew he was wishing the rain to stay. A battle of Wills right at the Mouth of Truth grounds🤣

Anyway, it continued as a light drizzle until it was our turn. Prior to going in, my brother (Once upon a Fountain, read here) had left the queue to ascertain the “state of things”. He came back, and asked us to follow him while holding our space on the queue. That’s when we saw the sculpture and realized that the queue was to take pictures with the sculpture. That was a damper for me, but we were already in the vicinity so we decided to wait our turn and capture the moment. I expected more, I don’t know why😅

We captured our moments with Bocca della Verita sculpture and came home with both hands🤭💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿🤭
